SPARK SPEAKER SERIES | Heart Disease: Why is it still such a killer—and what can we do about it?

Tuesday, July 14, 1:00PM at The Alamosa Senior Citizens Center and 6:00pm at The Bridge at Alamosa

Dr. Kinney is a board-trained family physician with advanced training in women’s health, functional medicine, and anti-aging/functional medicine. Join us for this practical, empowering talk, in which Dr. Kinney will break down the most important (and often overlooked) risk factors for heart disease, explain which tests can help you better understand your personal risk, and share clear, actionable steps you can take to protect your heart and improve long-term health.

Organization Overview: At Care and Share Food Bank, we believe no one should go hungry. CASA DEL VALLE

Organization Overview: CASA del Valle serves children involved in dependency and neglect cases in the 12th Judicial District of Colorado. A CASA volunteer advocate provides stable and meaningful adult connection and advocacy for children experiencing extreme amounts of turbulence in their lives. By volunteering with CASA del Valle, you have the opportunity to aid in the court process of achieving a safe and permanent home for a child as quickly as possible.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)

A CASA will be a volunteer advocate for children involved in dependency and neglect cases within the 12th Judicial District. This advocacy includes meeting regularly with the child, professionals within the court system and other involved parties, in order to craft a detailed and accurate recommendation regarding what is in the child or children's best interest. Volunteers will go through ~40 hours of training and should expect to commit up to 4-6 hours per week for up to 24 months depending on the circumstances of their assigned cases.

COLORADO WELCOME CENTER

Organization Overview: Volunteers at the Colorado Welcome Center are the face of Alamosa. Interact with other volunteers and travelers, attend monthly lunch meetings and enjoy regional excursions that enhance your knowledge of our beautiful valley.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Travel Counselor

Join our team of Volunteer Travel Counselors at the Colorado Welcome Center in Alamosa! You’ll be the ultimate local guide, connecting travelers with our region’s unforgettable experiences. You’ll meet amazing people from around the world, connect with your community, go on regional excursions and interact with other volunteers! Travel Counselors work in two to four hour shifts at the Welcome Center located at 610 State Avenue in Alamosa. Volunteers will greet guests, provide information on local area attractions, provide information and driving directions, recommend activities and restaurants to travelers. You are the front line greeter for our community and should be proud to represent Alamosa to our guests.
