Organization Overview: At Care and Share Food Bank, we believe no one should go hungry. Volunteers are the heart of our organization—each year, they generously give more than 47,000 hours of their time to help us distribute nutritious food to our hunger relief partners and neighbors in need. - Volunteers will help inspect, sort, and pack food items to be distributed to the SLV community. We welcome individuals or groups of 6 to 12 people per shift. Volunteers must be age 9 or older and wear closed-toe shoes.

CASA DEL VALLE

Organization Overview: CASA del Valle serves children involved in dependency and neglect cases in the 12th Judicial District of Colorado. A CASA volunteer advocate provides stable and meaningful adult connection and advocacy for children experiencing extreme amounts of turbulence in their lives. By volunteering with CASA del Valle, you have the opportunity to aid in the court process of achieving a safe and permanent home for a child as quickly as possible.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)

A CASA will be a volunteer advocate for children involved in dependency and neglect cases within the 12th Judicial District. This advocacy includes meeting regularly with the child, professionals within the court system and other involved parties, in order to craft a detailed and accurate recommendation regarding what is in the child or children's best interest. Volunteers will go through ~40 hours of training and should expect to commit up to 4-6 hours per week for up to 24 months depending on the circumstances of their assigned cases.

Organization Overview: Volunteers at the Colorado Welcome Center are the face of Alamosa. Interact with other volunteers and travelers, attend monthly lunch meetings and enjoy regional excursions that enhance your knowledge of our beautiful valley.

Travel Counselor

Join our team of Volunteer Travel Counselors at the Colorado Welcome Center in Alamosa! You’ll be the ultimate local guide, connecting travelers with our region’s unforgettable experiences. You’ll meet amazing people from around the world, connect with your community, go on regional excursions and interact with other volunteers! Travel Counselors work in two to four hour shifts at the Welcome Center located at 610 State Avenue in Alamosa. Volunteers will greet guests, provide information on local area attractions, provide information and driving directions, recommend activities and restaurants to travelers. You are the front line greeter for our community and should be proud to represent Alamosa to our guests.

FRIENDS OF THE ALAMOSA LIBRARY

Organization Overview: The goal for the Friends of the Alamosa Library is to raise funds for unbudgeted items for the Alamosa Public Library as well as to promote reading and to assist the library in serving the public. Friends of the Alamosa Library contributed $10,000 to the library in 2024 and another $14,000 in 2025! Most of that money comes from monthly used book sales at the Spines location behind the Alamosa Post Office. They also sell used books in the library and stock the Little Free Libraries throughout town.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Book Sale Assistants at Spines

Volunteer at regular book sales (1st Saturday of each month, May through October), or on intermittent occasions such as workdays, book drive days, etc.

Other Opportunities at Spines and the Alamosa Public Library

Volunteers are needed to help on a periodic basis with the following tasks:

Collecting, transporting, sorting, shelving, and disposing of donated books.
Sponsor one of our Little Free Library locations, keeping it clean and stocked with a variety of reading material (there are currently 23 locations). Books provided.
Work on tasks within the library itself at the direction of the library manager.
Pick up a book donation and bring it to the Spines facility.
Assist with public awareness activities such as July 4 parade, tables at various events and publicity.
Story Walk maintenance and installation of new books about 2 times per year.
Restocking the Little Free Libraries.
At some point in the future, a dedicated volunteer with time and computer skills could begin on-line sales for valuable books. Would include mailing, shipping, and bookkeeping.

All volunteer work is periodic in nature based on the needs of the Friends and its yearly schedule. Minimal work in the winter. Some tasks require the ability to lift moderate to heavy boxes.
